The Waldwick Band Seeks Music Director
The Waldwick Band in Northern NJ is looking for a Music Director, to start September 2026. Our present Conductor, Edmund Moderacki, is retiring after 48 years.
The Waldwick Band is a community band founded more than 70 years ago. We play four main concerts during the school year, with additional concerts during the summer, and on a parade float for Memorial Day and July Fourth. The band plays a traditional community band repertory consisting of original works for band, orchestral transcriptions, show and movie selections, "pop" compositions and marches. Much of the music is grades 4 and 5, with some grade 6. We have 55 to 60 adult musicians for our main concerts, with about 45 players at weekly rehearsals in Paramus, NJ. There are no auditions, although the Music Director screens prospective members. The band is active throughout the year, with weekly rehearsals during the school year and fewer rehearsals during the summer.
The Music Director conducts the band and selects the repertoire. We have an extensive musical library of more than 2,000 pieces, with new pieces purchased every year. In addition to conducting and programming, our current Director manages other functions of the band, including bookings and the library, but his successor might not be involved with these functions.
The Waldwick Band has a strong following, and the main concerts are well attended. The group is financially sound, too. We do not charge admission for our concerts or require dues from our members. Revenue is obtained from donations and parade and summer concert fees.
